As many as one-third of all buildings in the United States have flooring that’s prone to mold, a condition that could make it difficult for homeowners to clean, maintain or maintain their homes.
And as the average American ages, their homes become less appealing to the elements, says Dr. David A. Mokdad, director of the Mokda Institute for Community Health at the University of Michigan.
“A lot of people are not going to be able to afford to buy replacement flooring for their homes, or even repair it,” Mokdanad says.
Lowes and Lowe’s are two of the largest manufacturers of laminate floors, but Lowe’s and Lowe have been working to find a way to make their floors safer for years.
In 2014, the companies partnered with the University at Buffalo to develop a new type of laminated flooring called low-cost flooring.
Lowes’ new low-end laminated product was the first low-priced flooring in the country to be tested and approved by the federal government.
The low-floor flooring is more durable than traditional flooring and is more environmentally friendly, the company says.
The low-price flooring comes with a warranty of two years.
The company says it’s now tested to be “the safest flooring product in the industry,” and that the new flooring “does not contain toxic chemicals or other hazardous materials.”
Lowe’s also partnered with other manufacturers to improve their products, including using “biodegradable” materials, using the company’s own technology to manufacture the flooring from the ground up, and using “eco-friendly” materials to make the floor in the first place.
Lowe says the low-quality flooring it offers is more eco-friendly than the ones made by other manufacturers.
Lowe’s products use recycled material, recycled wood, and recycled paper, as well as “biocompatible” materials like biodegradables and polymers.
The company says its flooring does not contain any toxic chemicals, or other toxic materials.
In addition to its partnership with the university, Lowe’s is offering its floor-making process to any home buyer who wants to make flooring more environmentally-friendly, according to a company spokesperson.
The process is the same as other types of flooring used in commercial kitchens, and can be purchased from Lowe’s.
The partnership with Buffalo is part of a wider push by Lowe’s to be more green, which the company has long been promoting, and Mokdad says he expects that the company will continue to invest in research and development to develop more ecofriendly products in the future.
The company is also looking into a program to give its low-dollar flooring away to students.
Lowes has a $4 million investment in the Buffalo Green initiative, which aims to reduce energy consumption in low-income communities by 10% by 2020.
